Climate change has been a growing concern around the world in recent years. There are many people worried about the state of our earth as well as many who deny there is a problem. I wonder how much of our environmental views are caused by a disconnect between nature and modern society. We live in a world where food is mass manufactured, communities are tightly planned with the removal of trees and other elements of nature, and raging wildfires are increasingly destructive. Clean water and other natural resources are also threatened by human activity. “Smell The Smoke” at its core is a call for connection to the environment. These works on canvas take a closer look at our ever-changing relationship with nature.
